The reasons behind Windows 7. Why still using it?
We think the most important thing in a operating system is stability. Windows 7 is the most efficient operating systems in most not-so-old PCs. Windows 7 uses less resources than Windows 10 and Windows 11, and manage overall tasks better [1] [2].
We’ve never had the feeling that Microsoft really cares about privacy. Actually, on the contrary, more than once over the years, even going back to the Windows XP days. However, before Windows 8.1, Microsoft hasn't been introducing the new "enforcing" policies. It didn’t have the Microsoft Store with prebuilt useless apps or overblown data collection, and there was no attempt to force you to use an online account to login and use the software.
Windows 7, either Professional or Ultimate release, incorporates the programs just necessary, the basics, neither more nor less. No bloatware, no third-party apps, and no useless apps. You can check the list of programs and features of Windows 7 (Archived).
In our opinion, we think visual design of this operating system looks really oustanding taking account its age. The "Aero Concept" is well implemented and makes the OS look smooth and modern with the shadows, gradients and textures, which are present but not overused. Although the design concept has changed in the last 10 years with the "flat design", it still looks nice.
The security is probably the most important point in this old operating system. Windows 7 reached EOL (End-of-life) on January 14, 2020, the Extended Security Update Year 3* finished support some monthsd ago, in Jan 10, 2023. This means no further security updates for the OS, but you might still get "Security Intelligence Update for Windows Defender".
The phrase "the most useful antivirus is common sense" has been around for quite some time, and it highlights an important point about cybersecurity. While antivirus software can certainly help protect your computer from malware and other threats, it's ultimately up to you to exercise caution and make smart decisions when using your computer and browsing the internet. It's important to note that relying solely on common sense might not be enough to protect computer from threats. Hackers and cybercriminals are constantly developing new tactics and techniques to exploit vulnerabilities in operating systems, applications, and networks. Using old versions of Windows can be a significant security risk as they are no longer receiving security updates from Microsoft. Anyways, we think that by browsing internet cautiously, we can "bypass" this point :b.
To add another point, we love "legacy" and "vintage" software. Windows 7 brought us so much good time. Since 2009, the OS has been working expectional without much problems, unlike Windows 10, which is an OS we have working with it simultaneously.
It will be a huge shame the day we will be totally forced to move to another Windows version in order to keep working in our projects 💔. Big life Windows 7!
