About this project
The base
It's around 2007 when Andén 1 released a mixed (Metro and Cercanías) map, a quick and really useful map. However, the map went outdated as soon as new stations and lines appeared or names changed.
Initially based on that map, I wanted to make a simple, quick and, the most important, updated map to plan a trip over Madrid. With all current and future stations included. This map also offers some information over the services (Metro, Cercanías and Metro Ligero).
The need
This map presents information of all lines in Madrid so is not needed to have a look at two or even three maps to plan a route by public transport, although this has been simplified with apps like Citymapper or Google Maps.
The current official CRTM railway network map is not very intuitive. They mix all Cercanías lines into one even without colors, making it confusing to the user, also not reflecting Metro zones as well as other things I implemented in my map. You can see CRTM map here: [PDF] 0C EsquemaIntegrado Jun22.
Curated design
Designed this map with emphasis on a user-friendly view, quick to use and keeping the different companies branding.
The map is based on several sources; the official Metro map, original RFI map, as well as Google Maps and other tools for creating the perfect map.
