Data Working Group
The Data Working Group (DAWG) is designated by the organization to handle legal and data-related matters, including copyright infringement claims, reverse engineering disputes, data management, and other compliance issues. While minor incidents should be resolved at the community level, the DAWG intervenes in escalated or complex cases requiring formal review, investigation, or legal action.
DAWG intervenes in escalated or complex cases requiring formal review, investigation, or legal action. The team can be reached at legal@ragyxo.com and data@bbjprojek.org.
Activities
DAWG is responsible for managing sensitive data-related issues, ensuring legal compliance, and overseeing investigative processes involving copyright, privacy, and security concerns. The group operates with a focus on transparency, due process, and technical rigor, addressing cases such as intellectual property infringement, reverse engineering, and unauthorized data transmission.
When potential legal or policy violations arise—such as copyright claims or privacy breaches—they are typically reported via email and formally logged into OTRS, an open-source issue tracking system used by the DAWG to maintain organized records. Communication with affected users or alleged infringers is conducted primarily through email or postal mail to ensure clarity and provide an opportunity for resolution before escalation. This approach helps uphold fairness, particularly in cases requiring legal action.
For particularly complex cases—such as those involving reverse engineering, data leaks, or systemic security risks—the DAWG may engage specialized investigators, legal consultants, or cybersecurity experts. These professionals assist in evidence collection, forensic analysis, and, when necessary, expert testimony. The group also collaborates with internal technical teams and external partners to assess risks and implement corrective measures, ensuring a comprehensive response to each case.
DAWG monitors ongoing cases to verify compliance with legal standards and organizational policies. Regular updates to OTRS ensure that all actions are properly documented, maintaining accountability and enabling future reference
Copyright infringements
Unauthorized copying, reverse engineering, transmission, public performance, rental, or circumvention of copy protection are some examples of legal issues and infringements that are dealt by the DAWG.
The team often has to file complaints against certain teams, individual users, and other users who engage in noncompliance with the regulations imposed, or noncompliance with the open source licenses of our code. Access to these files are available at the Internal Engineering Flops.
Community
The Data Working Group's duties also include to ensure the proper use of the different BBJProjeK's services and compliance of the contract by all registered users, guests and teams of the organization.
Staff is empowered to put temporary blocks on any user activity, terminate contracts, or even to impose legal sanctions on the user. This is to force people engaging in questionable activity to pause their efforts, and to comply with the signed contract. Thus, their purpose is not to banish a user from the team, but rather to get their attention in cases of unresponsive users or limit the damage occurring in cases of incompatibly licensed or improperly usage of the products and services. Permanent blocks, and major legal issues are managed by staff and are normally imposed only after going through the process outlined in the organization ban policy, among other internal policies.
The DAWG is also in charge of removing or redacting information that cannot be distributed in the organization, even after being discussed for legal reasons. This usually stems from bulk amounts of information that have been copied or distributed while not having the proper licensure or permission. Data that have been redacted are still listed in Internal Engineering Flops, but actual information is absent. More information about the redacting process can be found on the internal subpages.
