Slack
Slack is our preferred way to get things done in BBJProjeK. It's our digital headquarters designed to replace email, streamline collaboration, and keep our working groups aligned.
Understanding the use
If a new member recently joins us, they might find Slack a little chaotic, as it's filled with channels, groups, members and messages. In this small post everything is explained.
Slack is essential for our teamwork, as it:
- Serves as centralized communication. Instead of scattered emails and meetings, all team discussions, decisions, and file sharing happen in dedicated channels (like #deliverynet or #mail). This creates a searchable knowledge base for everyone.
- Makes decisions faster with instant answers through direct messages and group chats. Quick questions get quick responses without clogging inboxes.
- Allows a seamless integration because it connects directly with daily tools, like Google Docs, Outlook, etc.
- Aligns with our values. Slack allows us to align with our organization values. This type of communication is about 🤝 Collaboration, ⏱️ Efficiency, and 👁️ Transparency, three of our defined values.
In short, Slack helps us work smarter, not harder, by bringing people, data, and tools together in one place.
Channels
Work is organized into dedicated spaces called channels. Each channel has its own purpose. For example, in #infra channel, it is where servers and other general infrastructure is discussed.
There are public and private channels, you may be added to private channels for discussing specific projects, or when joining a dedicated working group. Most channels are public, though.
The #general channel, as its name provides, it's where general discussion happen. In this channel, a weekly highlight is pinned so members don't miss any important bit of information. Also, the team publishes a weekly ticket on XasPos Messenger with the same information.
Think twice before creating a channel. Think three times before making it private. You can always contact a moderator whether you should create a private channel for discussing a new project with selected members, or using an existing channel for the same purpose.
Use public channels whenever possible to ensure access to shared knowledge across the organization.
Highlights
Highlights is what we call to frequently pinned messages in channel. It's where relevant information is posted. It's a summary of previous important discussion, so members don't have to read a 2km long chat if they missed it.
When and where to post?
But Slack it's not the only place to get things done and notify members! Within the organization, there are several ways of communicating, announcing and sending information.
Each way has different purposes and formalities. Please, read [Ticket] When and Where to Post? A Simple Guide.
